Folk-rock band turned all-woman power trio disappear fear will return for the first time in years Friday, December 9 to Cousin Andy's Coffeehouse in the Church of the Good Shepherd. The group made their first Carbondale appearance at the Sunset Concerts in the 1990s, then played at least one nightclub show. After self-releasing three independent CDs, the group signed to Rounder Records, one of the world's largest independent labels, in 1994. When one of the sisters who led the group, Cindy, left for motherhood in 1996, disappear fear disbanded and the other sister, Sonia, went solo, issuing two discs on Rounder, one on Winthrop Records, and one on her own label, disappear records. Earlier this year, however, Sonia, who plays guitar, harmonica, and piano, revived the group with Laura Cerulli on percussion and vocals and Angela Edge on bass and trumpet. They have already released a live CD, DF05 LiVE, and retain the original band's commitment to topical songwriting, which the group's press bio calls "acoustic activism." Today, however, the group is supposedly more inspired by acoustic blues and world music . |
